Frequently Asked Questions

Got some questions about the Festival? You might find the answers you need below, if not flick us a message.

How often does the Festival take place?

The full New Zealand International Science Festival happens every other year during the first week of the July school holidays. A smaller NanoFest is held in the off years. 2024 is a NanoFest year (dates coming soon!) and the next full festival will be held in July 2025.

Where does the Festival take place?

Most Festival events happen in Dunedin, New Zealand. Events are hosted at a variety of venues around town. Please refer to individual event listings for venue information.

How much does the Festival cost?

We endeavour to keep the festival as accessible as possible for our community. As a result, most of our family and children's events are under $0 - $5, while some ask for a donation to the festival. Our adult events range average around $10-20. Check the individual events for more specific pricing details.

I'm an event host, where can I find the logo and other brand elements?

Head to the resources page to download the brand elements. If you're missing something, send us an email.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved in a number of different ways including participating in a festival event, volunteering your time to support the festival or even hosting your own event in a future festival!

How do I host an event in future Festivals?

We will do a call out for events late in the year before a full festival. You will be able to find our 'Call for Ideas' document on the 'Event Hosts' page. The next Call for Ideas will be in Nov/Dec 2024.
