Oceans and Fisheries expert Prof. Daniel Pauly heads to NZ

In May this year Prof. Daniel Pauly, a world expert in oceans and fisheries, toured New Zealand, thanks to a collaboration between the NZISF, SCANZ, NZ Marine Science Society, and the University of Otago. Prof. Pauly discussed the the growth, expansion and decline of fisheries, and the local and global impacts from humans. Each event was full capacity and well received. 

Dr. Daniel Pauly is a French Canadian Professor of Fisheries at the University of British Columbia,Vancouver Canada, where he directs the Sea Around Us project. This project is devoted to studying, documenting and mitigating the impact of fisheries on the world’s marine ecosystems.The concepts, methods and software he (co-)developed are documented in over 1000 widelycited publications, and have led to his receiving multiple scientific awards.
