This guided walk will reveal some of New Zealand's exceptionally rich lichen flora. Explore the Botanic Garden to discover the diverse growth forms and habitats of these amazing symbiotic organisms.

Meet at the Information Centre. This event is not suitable for those in wheelchairs.

Children under 10 years old to be accompanied by an adult.  Please wear warm clothes and good footwear

Dr Allison Knight is a Research Associate in the Botany Department of the University of Otago and an Honorary Curator of Lichens at the Otago Herbarium. She collaborates with many international lichenologists and her research interests include: alpine lichens as indicators of climate change; the conservation status of New Zealand lichens; revision of the taxonomy of several genera of lichens and study of the lichenicolous fungi that live specifically on lichens. Allison has written an introductory guide to New Zealand lichens which is available online on the Botanical Society of Otago website and she is keen to help raise awareness of New Zealand’s exceptionally rich lichen flora.
