EVERYDAY SCIENCE ART EXHIBITION - InterfaCE

InterfaCE is a collaborative installation depicting aspects of an ongoing investigative conversation between Dunedin Artist Claire Beynon and New York based polar scientist, Samuel Bowser. It combines original research material with SEM photographs and interpretative charcoal drawings.

The paintings of Nicola Gibbons explore and visualise worlds that are normally hidden from view; alluring textural paintings investigate interior scapes of the human body, the inner mechanics at work.

FIND YOUR INNER FISH

What can we find out about our brains, and how they evolved, by studying fish brains? What is it like to be a fish? Do they think? Do they feel pain?
How do they find their way home in the dark? Come along, see a shark brain being dissected, and find out how similar your brain is to that of a fish.

HERE BE MONSTERS! Dark Journeys To The Ocean Underworld

Peter Batson has travelled from the Equator to the North Pole in search of the deep-sea creatures. In this engaging and lavishly illustrated talk he describes encounters with the bizarre animals that lurk in perpetual darkness.

REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Join us on our last day of the Festival and travel by bus from ODT Festival HQ to Maori Point, Smaill's Beach, Otago Peninsula.  Help us plant 800 trees. Enjoy a barbeque and refreshments provided by the Tomahawk Smaills Beach Trust.   All proceeds will be donated to the WWF-Malaysia's Orangutan Appeal. As seats are limited, bookings are essential. Family tickets available for 2 adults and a maximum of three children.

What Lives In The World's Coldest Waters?

Find out about the daily life of a marine scientist in the Antarctic! Dr David Bowden, was on board the RV Tangaroa when it made a seven-week voyage to study the marine biodiversity of the Ross Sea as part of International Polar Year. He will talk about life on board, the remarkable specimens they discovered, and why Antarctica is important.
