Albany Junior High School - Auckland
We didn't find any earthworms in our samples.
Y7/8: My name is Hayden, I am one of the students doing meet a metre. I am sad to say we found nothing as the soil was to dry and hard.
Hello my name is Byung-Hoon from a group called Diamond Jenness because it was the easiest name to remember and he was an anthropologist. Where we dug we didn't find anything.
Beatrice Tinsley Group: The ground in so hard and dry that we could not drive a spade through it, and we also suspect there wouldn't have been anything there anyway!

Kaikorai Valley College
For the worm count, we had six groups digging in a variety of locations.
The highest worm count was 17 worms in a quadrat that had a thin layer of darker soil on top of hard clay under mown grass. There were also spiders in the grass of this quadrat.
The next highest was 15 worms plus one caterpillar and more than 17 grass grubs! The soil under the grass and clover of this quadrat was much darker and crumbly than at the other sites, which had 5, 1, 0 and 0 worms. These other sites had much wetter soils under mown pasture (grass, clover and daisies). Other fauna we found included one nematode, some beetles and grass grubs.
