5. Doing a one line transect 
In conjunction with counting the flora, fauna and fungi in a decided number of squares as a percentage of what is present in the whole quadrat, a one line transect should be carried out.
Do this by unrolling the transect line - which could be string marked at 1 cm intervals or a rule as pictured - across the whole length of any part of the quadrat.
The species touching or crossing the length of the line are recorded. This is known as continuous sampling.
