Cecile de Klein, a senior scientist with AgResearch, has been working in the greenhouse
gas research area for almost 20 years. Born and educated in The Netherlands,
Cecile came to New Zealand in 1995 following a 2-year postdoc in Cambridge, UK.
She now is an internationally recognised expert on agricultural nitrous oxide
(N2O) emissions, and has been the convenor and chair of the
New Zealand N2O research network, NzOnet, since 1999. She currently
leads various research projects on developing options for reducing agricultural
N2O emissions, including one of the 4 national field trials
investigating the effect of nitrification inhibitors on pasture response and N2O
emissions. Cecile is also Programme Leader for the Pastoral Research Programme
– Environment, a large cross-organisational R&D programme focused on the
development of farmer-friendly tools and technologies for reducing contaminant losses
to water.
