How Unique is My Job! With Special Guest Submarine Designer Lucy Collins (UK)

With a festival line up consisting of many different career choices in science, Lucy Collins job is one of the most unique we have ever had. Having begun with a first class Masters degree in Civil and Structural Engineering. Lucy was subsequently employed by the Ministry of Defence as a Naval Architect (a designer of ships and submarines for the Royal Navy). Lucy is currently on secondment to University College London where she helps to run the MSc in Naval Architecture, manages the experimental tank facilities and is also undertaking a PhD in the field of submarine design. As part of her defence role, Lucy is a Lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and was the first female civilian to do time at sea in a submarine. Join Lucy as she shares some of her insights from this unique role, and her work in encouraging young women into science careers.
