Aidan Braid is one of a small group of high school students who were selected to join the Sir Peter Blake Trust voyage to the Sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands in January 2016.
The Auckland Islands is one of the most remote and biodiverse spots on the planet. This untouched region has much to teach NZ and the world around climate change and ocean health. Travelling on HMNZS Otago, the group found out about life onboard a naval ship. Accompanied by a team of leading scientists and experts from the University of Otago and the Department of Conservation, the students planned and then carried out scientific research and collected baseline data in areas where no parts of the ecosystem may ever have been researched before.
