A fun day out for the whole family exploring one of our city’s biodiversity hotspots! Join an expert team of some of NZ’s finest scientists and naturalists to celebrate the myriad life on your doorstep! The Dunedin Botanic Garden will host a range of hands on activities and exploration walks throughout its spaces. Discover and practise the skills required to observe, identify and classify an array of species from fungi to fish, pests to plants, birds to bugs and many many more!
Findings from the Bioblitz will be uploaded to the Botanic Garden's NatureWatch page.
Children under 10yrs must be accompanied by an adult. Walks will take participants around a variety of terrain. Be prepared for all weathers, wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing.
For all BioBlitz events and activities, meet at the BioBlitz Base, Information Centre, Dunedin Botanic Garden.
All organisations offering the walks & talks will be at the BioBlitz Base (Information Centre) throught the day and offer many fun activities.
In addition to their "Birds New Zealand" walk & talk at 10am, the Ornothological Society will offer throughout the day: View birds close-up through spotting telescopes; test you nest identification skills(prizes); spot banded birds in the gardens(prizes); take part in 5-minute bird counts with an ornithologist.
